SPLIT TABLE

We had a small couch and a chair, the couch was too small for two people to comfortably sit on for long periods. My wife, Danielle and I used to argue about who would get the coffee table when we were eating a snack in front of the TV (one of us sitting on the couch, one of us sitting on the chair)... so I made this.

The table was made out of an antique door that I recycled (which made the project 12 times more difficult than it needed to be). The frame was identical made to look like a massive saw cut through the whole thing when it was split open (with unpainted wood exposed in the center). Neodymium magnets were intended to be placed into hollowed out cavities in the frame and used to hold the table together until we pulled it apart. And finally, I popped a test tube into the hole that had previously been made for the door handle. The flower in the tube was the only thing my wife liked. : )
